The 'Circular Funk Section' is a pseudo song that represents one of the sections of Dazed and Confused. It is a funk section played after the bow solo in virtually every performance of Dazed and Confused in 71, 72, and 73. It made sporadic appearances in 75 as well. The section gets its name because it is comprised of funk riffs that go around and around. The main guitar chord used in the turnaround is the same fingering, played with a similar rhythm to Purple Haze and Stone Free from Jimi Hendrix.
I designated the beginning of the song when Jimmy starts playing the main riff and the end of the song when he goes off into soloing. Jones and Bonham often continued to play the underlying rhythms for a while after Jimmy started soloing, but I needed to standardize the song so I had to pick an arbitrary end to it.
The 'Circular Funk Section' is a direct descendent of the 'Beat Down Section' as it is similar in theme and replaced it in the live show in early 71.
